1947-S Phillipines MacArthur Silver Peso and 50 centavos 2 coin set minted in San Francisco. These coins signify Gen. MacArthur famously declaring “I shall return” upon leaving the Philippines during World War II, heading to Australia after the Japanese invasion of the island chain. MacArthur made a triumphant return later in the war, during the Oct. 20, 1944, invasion of Leyte. The peso is composed of 80% silver and the 50 centavos is composed of 75% silver.
